The department’smain objective is to produce a highly competent pharmacy practitioner byproviding the experience and knowledge in the chemistry based topics from thepharmacy plan curriculum necessary for graduate education and health carerelated careers. Focus is emphasized on building strong scientific foundationsand developing essential laboratory skills.
The section houses five majorlaboratories including: analytical pharmaceutical chemistry, organicpharmaceutical chemistry, phytochemistry, medicinal chemistry and “instrumentalanalysis and drug identification”. All of which tend to the synthesis, design, analysis “both qualitative and quantitative” of drugs and naturalproducts. Scientific research interests fall into different categories suchas synthesis and discovery of novel drugs in particular anticancer drugs, natural polymer modifications as drug delivery systems and development of newanalytical techniques for quality control.
